Meet Our Town Council

The Branford Town Council meets the second Tuesday of each month, 7:00 pm at Branford Town Hall.

Charlie Daniel

Council President – Mr. Daniel, along with his wife Chris, are long time citizens of the Town of Branford. Mr. Charlie is retired from the Air Force and is a Vietnam Vet. He has served on the Council for many years and looks forward to the challenge. Mr. Daniel is an avid fisherman and enjoys being on the river. Mr. Daniel serves as Post #3.

Alice Childress

Vice President –  Mrs. Childress, along with her husband Bill, have lived in Branford since 1980.  She brings experience and knowledge to the Council, due to her employment with the City of Lake City as Senior Accountant in Finance Administration. She has been employed with them for 19 years and is retiring in 2018. She is looking forward to retirement, so she can devote more time working with other Council members to bring about the constant changes in Local Goverment.   She is Councilwoman for post #2, currently serving as Vice-President to the Council.

Ken Saunders

Councilman –  President Ken Saunders has been a resident of Branford for 17 years.  He is married to Diane Walker-Saunders, a native of Branford.  Together they have worked for many years with young women in the Branford/Suwannee River Valley area to obtain educational funding through scholarship pageants. Mr. Saunders hopes to assist in the revitalization of our downtown area.  He is an avid bicyclist and enjoys biking on Branford’s Greenway Trail.  He currently serves as councilman for Post #1

Randy Herndon

Councilman- Leonard R. “Randy” Herndon Jr is a graduate of Branford High School, North Florida Junior College, and the University of Florida, where he majored in Accounting and Business Management.  Mr. Herndon retired and returned to Branford after a career in banking.  His work experience includes Auditing, Accounting, Financial and Regulatory Reporting, Budgeting, Management, and Personnel.

Randy is an active member of the Rotary Club of Branford. He is married to the former Barbara McCauley of Mayo.  They have two sons and one grandson.

Matt Burns

Councilman – Mr. Burns is a Councilman for Post #5.  He and his wife Kim are long time residents of the Town of Branford.  Other than serving on the Town Council, Matt operates Matt Burns Electric, a business he has run for many years.

Donna Hardin

Town Clerk –  Donna Hardin is the Clerk for the Town of Branford.   She has been in office since June of 2005.   The Town Clerk position has been an elected position since the beginning of time but, in June of 2006 the citizens of Branford voted to make it an appointed one.  This change took place in June of 2007.  Donna, along with her husband Kevin, enjoys living in Branford.  They have two sons.

Mayor Dempsey

Mayor Dempsey is a lifelong resident of Branford. He is also a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He and his wife, Sandra, are both retired from the Suwannee County School Board where they taught in Branford for many years. Mayor Dempsey has, over the years, coached basketball, softball and golf. He was also a sponsor of Future Business Leaders of America. He and his wife are the proud parents of two daughters, Caitlin and Natalie, both graduates of Branford High School. Mayor Dempsey has always had a deep love for his hometown and is dedicated to the continued improvement and revitalization of Branford. He feels it is a pleasure to serve the Town of Branford as Mayor.

County Services

 

 sharonwjordanSuwannee County Tax Collector

The Suwannee County Tax Collector is in Branford (at 606 NW Suwannee Ave, county office next to town hall) twice a month to assist with tags, titles and taxes. Their hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM (closed 12:00 to 1:00 for lunch) on the first and third Tuesdays of every month. The mobile drivers license unit is also in Branford at the same location on the first Tuesday of each quarter. The hope is to better serve the citizens of the south end of Suwannee County. Suwannee Sheriff's Office

The Town of Branford is covered by the Suwannee County Sheriff's Department.  We are under contract and have deputies in town around the clock.  If you need assistance from law enforcement they can be reached at 386-362-2222 or by calling 911 in case of an emergency.  They do have an annex office here in town however, they do not have personnel there full-time.  The annex is located at 27055 SE 83rd Place and that phone number is 386-935-4514.Click Here to Visit the Suwannee County Sheriff's Website.

srecSenior Citizen Resources

The Suwannee River Economic Council comes to Branford twice a week to provide meals for the senior citizens (60 +) in our community. They meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 am -1:00 pm to share a meal and enjoy each others company. The group meets at the old Suwannee County health dept. building located at 120 SW Suwannee Ave. For more information you can contact Sabrina Brock at 386-362-1164. Suwannee Co. Property Appraiser

The property appraiser sends a representative to Branford during the months of January and February each year as a service to the south end of the county. They are here at the town hall on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of these months from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm. Click Here to Visit the Property Appraiser's Website

Veterans Services

The Suwannee County Veterans Service Officer comes to Branford on the last Thursday of each month. Mr. Ellis Gray works out of the old County Health Dept. building when here. Mr. Gray is employed by the county and certified by the State of Florida. He helps assist Veterans with claims to the VA, as well as their dependants. He will be in Branford from 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM on these days. For further information you can contact Mr. Gray at 386-364-3403.
